CRANBURY, N.J. (August 21, 2017)  Pharmacy Times® and Parata Systemsfounding partners of the Next-Generation Pharmacist® awards, congratulate the 2017 winners named at Saturday evening’s award gala at the San Diego Zoo.

Jeffrey Goad, PharmD, MPH, professor and pharmacy practice chairman of the Chapman University School of Pharmacy in Irvine, California, received the evening’s top honor: 2017 Next-Generation Pharmacist. Goad will be featured on the cover of the August 2017 issue of Pharmacy Times®, which will contain a profile of his contributions to the industry.

“Congratulations to all our 2017 Next-Generation Pharmacist finalists and winners,” said DJ Dougherty, CEO of Parata. “One of the most exciting elements of the Next-Generation Pharmacist program is the sense of community it creates among leaders driving change in the industry. This year’s awards recipients — representing the best and brightest in pharmacy — are joining a group of more than 200 outstanding pharmacy professionals who have been recognized since 2010.”

Next-Generation Pharmacist nominations surpassed 530 entries across 10 award categories. An independent panel of esteemed judges evaluated all entries for adherence to professional standards, experience as it relates to each category, and advancement of the profession. The three highest scoring entries in each category were named finalists, and the top-scoring entry was named the category winner. The overall Next-Generation Pharmacist was selected from among the winners of the eight pharmacist categories.

“This year’s Next-Generation Pharmacist finalists are the pharmacy leaders of today who embody our standards of innovation and inspiration in pharmacy and represent the future vision of the profession,” said Pharmacy Times® editor-in-chief Troy Trygstad, PharmD, PhD, MBA. “We congratulate this diverse group of gifted men and women and celebrate all their accomplishments across a wide range of practice settings.”

“I consider training thousands of pharmacists and pharmacy students to provide lifesaving vaccines to people of all ages and helping to stimulate the growth of pharmacist-based travel health services in the United States to be my greatest accomplishments,” said 2017 Next-Generation Pharmacist Jeffrey Goad. “As pharmacists expand their role, they will become the most valuable health care team member in all settings. In the future, I envision pharmacists as medication therapy providers for all patients, and pharmacies as immunization, wellness, and self-treatment centers. Pharmacists will dispense care, not drugs.”

“Year after year we continue to be inspired and impressed by the ingenuity of all our Next-Generation Pharmacist award nominees, finalists, and winners and their commitment to helping patients lead healthier lives. This year is no exception,” said Brian Haug, president of Pharmacy Healthcare & Communications LLC, a franchise of Michael J. Parata Introduces New Automated Inspection System and Software Platform for Pouch Packaging

Durham, North Carolina: Pharmacy technology provider Parata Systems unveiled two new pharmacy automation solutions yesterday at the 2017 MHA Business Summit in Las Vegas. Long-term care, infusion, and specialty pharmacists attending the summit to share insights and explore innovative technologies got the first glimpses of the Parata Perl™ Pouch Inspector and the Parata Pivot™ software platform.

“Parata Perl increases pharmacy efficiency and gives pharmacists more time to engage patients and make meaningful clinical interventions,” said DJ Dougherty, CEO, Parata. “Pharmacist verification is one of the most time consuming and expensive processes in a pharmacy — and it’s absolutely essential to make sure every prescription goes out the door correctly. The Parata Perl Pouch Inspector automates and accelerates this critical step with speed and accuracy rates the industry has never seen before.”

  • Parata Perl images and inspects up to 5 pouches every second. With its high speed and exception rates as low as 2 percent, Parata Perl reduces hands-on pharmacist verification time for PASS packaging by more than 90 percent.
  • Perl’s self-learning software detects and images new pills, making it possible to update the master drug database in as little as 3 seconds.
  • The optional Cut & Roll accessory automatically cuts and rolls strips by patient, hour of administration, or facility and separates flagged pouches for fast, easy retrieval.

“With the patent-pending Parata Pivot™ software platform, pharmacies can integrate multiple Parata PASS® packagers as one,” said Marcus Kennedy, Parata’s vice president of product development. “Pivot creates efficiency gains that increase a pharmacy’s daily throughput by up to 50 percent.”

  • Parata Pivot saves time by identifying the most efficient packager and better balancing the workload across the pharmacy’s fleet of packagers.
  • The Parata Pivot software platform centralizes inventory and allows canister sharing and facility-wide reporting.
  • Pharmacies using Parata Pivot have reduced the use of special tablet trays by more than 25 percent, creating a more efficient and automated process and decreasing opportunities for human error.

Parata To Open New Headquarters In Durham To Continue Enhanced Collaboration And Growth

Pharmacy Technology Company To Complete 100,000 Square Foot Facility In 2017

Durham, N.C., January 19, 2017 – Pharmacy technology provider Parata Systems began construction on a new headquarters to promote collaboration, employee and customer engagement, as well as to sustain current growth and enable planned future growth. Brokered by Brad Armstrong and Doug Brock at Newmark Grubb Knight Frank and developed by Brookwood Capital Partners, the build-to-suit facility is located at 106 Roche Drive and is part of Alexander Industrial Park.

The new facility will bring Parata’s manufacturing, distribution, and corporate offices into a single location. The 100,000 square-foot, two-floor space is designed to promote the open collaboration of Parata employees across departments and support improved productivity. To do so, the facility features a greater number of conference rooms, larger collaboration areas and a central breakroom designed to enable company-wide team events.

“This strategic move will bring all Parata business units under a single roof for the first time since 2007, after multiple acquisitions and bringing manufacturing in-house,” said Parata CEO DJ Dougherty. “Since then, Parata has received recognition for our thriving North Carolina-based manufacturing business and our industry-driven innovations in pharmacy technology and patient care. We believe uniting our team in a single location will make us even stronger.”

The new location will also support enhanced collaboration with Parata customers and business partners, showcasing the full scope of Parata operations. This includes Parata’s new Vision Center, an interactive space fully equipped with Parata’s pharmacy automation technologies. It functions like a real world pharmacy, giving prospects and partners an opportunity to experience Parata technology first-hand. Additionally, visitors can see the manufacturing floor through a wall of windows, where Parata’s technology is being built, tested, and prepared for delivery.

“When pharmacies choose Parata technology, they’re investing in more than a robot – they’re investing in the team behind the technology. We want to take care of that team so they can best service our clients, and our new space is evidence of this,” said Mark Longley, Parata’s EVP, Sales and Business Development. “The new floorplan is designed to create a collaborative and cohesive environment to foster creativity and productivity and enable our anticipated growth.”

Introducing Check PASS 2.0

  • December 20, 2016
  • News

Making validation fast, safe, and simple.

In the pharmacy, safety always comes first. Pharmacists are responsible for verifying each prescription before it goes out the door to ensure accuracy and patient safety. But even with expertise, experience, and the proper processes in place, a human’s ability to inspect degrades with time and the volume of work.

Parata Check PASS — an inspection aid for Parata PASS strip packaging — has been shown to be safer and more efficient than manual checking over large volumes and long periods of time. Check PASS organizes the inspection process, increases productivity, and safely reduces the amount of time pharmacists spend on verification.

Check PASS 2.0, our new software release for the Check PASS Inspection Station application, amplifies those benefits. With the new features in Check PASS 2.0, test sites decreased their validation times by an average of 38 percent.

Check out the new features.

“Congratulations to all our 2016 Next-Generation Pharmacists finalists and winners,” said DJ Dougherty, CEO of Parata Systems. “We welcome this year’s award recipients to an esteemed group of more than 150 pharmacy professionals who have been recognized since 2010. This year’s winners represent the outstanding contributions of our industry’s finest pharmacists, technicians, student pharmacists and industry advocates.”

More than 500 Next-Generation Pharmacist nominations were received across 11 award categories. An independent panel of esteemed judges evaluated all nominated entries based on adherence to professional standards, experience as it relates to each category  and advancement of the profession. Judges named the three highest scoring entries in each category as finalists and the top-scoring entry as the category winner. The overall Next-Generation Pharmacist was selected from among the winners of the 11 pharmacist categories.

“The 2016 Next-Generation Pharmacist represents the best of what we all hope to achieve as pharmacists,” said Pharmacy Times editor-in-chief Troy Trygstad, PharmD, PhD, MBA, who chaired the independent panel of judges that reviewed nominations. “Lisa is dedicated and caring, and sees it as her mission to help serve vulnerable communities. Lisa envisions pharmacists as a critical piece of the health care delivery system in an industry facing a multitude of challenges, including physician shortages and an aging population.”

Tonrey, winner of the Lifetime Leadership category, was honored for her advocacy as a public health practitioner and her dedication to championing causes, including successfully advancing a national agenda of pharmacists as immunizers. Tonrey led a 22-year active duty pharmacy career as a U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps Officer. Motivated by supporting patients who are taking efforts to improve their health, Tonrey helps patients reach their goals and inspires others to do the same.

“The recipients of this year’s Next-Generation Pharmacist awards are shining examples of what we should all aspire to in the pharmacy industry,” said Brian Haug, president of the Pharmacy and Rare Disease franchises of Michael J. Hennessy Associates, Inc., which publishes Pharmacy Times. “Today’s winners represent every pharmacist’s mission to deliver the best patient care amidst the modern realities of pharmacy practice in our complex health care environment.
