We believe diversity, equity, and inclusion make us stronger and that everyone deserves a place where they are valued for who they are. Parata is proud to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month!

My name is Steven Caban and I am a born and raised Puerto Rican. I grew up in Puerto Rico, also known as Borinquen (its indigenous Taino name), spending my elementary and high school years on the island until coming to Florida for college.
Puerto Rico, also referred to as “La Isla de El Encanto (The island of enchantment), is a small, beautiful island with a very diverse group of people. My favorite times were during Christmas when all the traditional food and music were front and center and the island and its people seemed livelier than usual. I say usual because we Puerto Ricans do not need an excuse to have fun or to bring the party to your doorstep.
On another note, my wife is from Bolivia, South America. Bolivians know how to make food and how to eat. If I were not Puerto Rican, I would be as bold as to say that Bolivian food is the best. But I am Puerto Rican and nothing beats Mofongo.
My wife and I have two children (16 and 15) who are learning about our heritage and have taken an interest in their culture. They listen to our Latino music on their own, especially Salsa.
