Wolfe’s Pharmacy Goes Beyond Prescriptions

When Peter Wolfe, owner of Wolfe’s pharmacy in southern Louisiana, noticed a shift in the independent retail pharmacy landscape, he knew he needed to transform his strategy to go beyond prescriptions. His solution was to implement a patient-centered business model to stay ahead of the competition.

“As an independent pharmacy, we couldn’t match the low prices the big chains offered,” said Peter. “We saw an opportunity to compete at a different level. So, we changed our strategy. We moved towards a patient-centered business.”

This meant knowing the needs of his community. “In this community, a lot of people don’t have transportation to get to the pharmacy and pick up their medications,” he says. Furthermore, many of his patients struggle to manage their maintenance medications.

“This has worked for me, and it will work for you. Take the leap. Make the investment. This is where pharmacy is moving. And if you’re not moving along with it, you’re going to be left behind.”

The first step was implementing medication synchronization, which they did successfully; but Peter wanted to do even more to support his patients. He saw Parata Pass adherence packaging as the perfect way to meet the needs of his community and take his patient-centered programs to the next level.

Now, Wolfe’s Pharmacy uses Parata PASS packaging to prepare medications for more than 1000 patients every month. “We help our patients take their medications correctly, and they feel better because of it,” Peter is proud to say.

Parata was the perfect partner to help revamp his adherence program. “Parata has a grasp of where pharmacy is headed and what it takes to get there,” said Peter. “With Parata PASS, they’ve helped us take the next step in medication adherence.”

In addition to happy and healthy patients, Wolfe’s adherence program- WolfePak- transformed the pharmacy’s workflow, created new growth opportunities, and expanded their delivery radius.

Peter encourages pharmacies to go beyond prescriptions and embrace a shift to a patient-centered model. “This has worked for me, and it will work for you. Take the leap. Make the investment. This is where pharmacy is moving. And if you’re not moving along with it, you’re going to be left behind.”
